The Man From Snowy River

Kirk Douglas plays two brothers, the one, Harrison, an aristocratic landowner, the other, Spur, a one-legged, scraggly prospector. The pair experience a falling out, though this is not addressed until the latter half of the picture. More important than the plot are the characters of the brothers. The film was one of Australia's top-grossing pictures, though the producers took a chance in casting an American in the roles. (Robert Mitchum and Burt Lancaster also were considered.) A fine directorial debut from George Miller, who, not surprisingly, tends to be confused with the director of MAD MAX and THE ROAD WARRIOR, also named George Miller.
