MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE, THE

John Ford's picture of the West here is a gloomy one, and the only thing to emerge from the darkness is the beastly Lee Marvin. He stars as the hellion Liberty Valance whose death serves as the focus of this elegaic film, told in one long flashback by state senator James Stewart.
