Orson Welles is cast in his only western as a powerful rancher who runs his Texas Xanadu with an iron fist. When one of Welles' Mexican laborers is brutally beaten to death, sheriff Chandler starts applying pressure. He gets no support from the townsfolk, however, who fear that Welles will leave town and take his wealth with him.
