A Man To Remember

Ellis is cast as a country doctor who is a kind-hearted, giving, community man. The film is structured in a series of flashbacks which episodically relate the doctor's career. One scene, for instance, shows a poor man who cannot afford his $100 medical bill--and Ellis reduces it to only $2. He is also instrumental in getting a banker to provide funds for a local hospital. Without any box-office names, A MAN TO REMEMBER reached a wide audience through word-of-mouth and because of the talents of first-time director Garson Kanin and second-time scripter Dalton Trumbo.
