The Man From Planet X

1951, Movie, NR, 70 mins

One of the staples of the science-fiction genre, this Edgar G. Ulmer film is a fine example of what can be done on a low budget. Shot in six days on the sets left over from JOAN OF ARC (1948), it features Clarke as a reporter in foggy Scotland who is confronted by a friendly alien. The alien's plea for aid for its freezing planet is met with obliteration by the British Army's bazookas. The failure of humanity and the coldheartedness of the Earth's inhabitants are carefully depicted in the bleak ending. One of Ulmer's better efforts from the latter half of his career, the film also boasts onetime Screen Actors' Guild president Schallert among its lead players.
