Bellamy is a scarred murderer on the run who takes refuge in a hospital where he overhears a doctor's new scientific theories. He has the doctor perform a type of surgery that will alter Bellamy's brain and face, making him into a newer, better person. With a new name (James Blake),
Bellamy rises to the top of the medical profession, but soon his past resurfaces, landing him before a judge. He is convicted for his crime but soon afterwards is pardoned by the governor. Remade as MAN IN THE DARK with Edmond O'Brien in the lead.
