Palance is perfectly cast in the Jack-the-Ripper role of Slade, a psychotic pathologist who boards in a house in London. It is there that he falls in love with the proprietor's daughter, Smith, who rejects him. There's a long list of femmes who've previously spurned Palance, and they've all ended up on the wrong end of the knife.
