O'Brien is Drew's husband who drinks too much when he finds out that she has invited one of her old admirers for a visit. On the drive home, he gets into a car accident and is reported dead although he is alive. O'Brien's friend, Menjou, who is a magician, advises him to dress like a ghost and haunt his wife and her ex-beau, Vallee.
