This surrealistic horror film is a sophomoric attempt to re-create the mood and style of films such as THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI (1919). Carriere's uncle, Welles, heads a household full of strange relatives and crazed inhabitants. Carriere returns from sea to find that his uncle has
captured dying Greek gods, sewn them into human flesh, and is holding them on an Ionian isle. The young man falls in love with the Gorgon, and she turns him into stone. Director Kumel and others responsible for this film did not have a grasp of the genre.
