Irritating, overly talky film adaptation of Jean Genet's stage play stars Jackson and York as two maids who despise their mistress, Merchant, and her lifestyle. Much of the film centers around the deadly play-acting of the two women as they devise ways to bump off their boss, with each
taking turns being "madame." By accident, York ends up getting the poison meant for Merchant. Aware of the potentially dull visual intrepretation from stage to screen, director Miles overcompensates and clutters his film with camera set-ups that distract from the material.
