A soap opera type of story about a successful businessman who has a beautiful, popular wife but still falls into an extramarital affair with a woman who is also married. This woman, Girardon, is so sharp at arranging her clandestine meetings that she starts to wonder if her lover's wife is doing the same. The husband, Tognazzi, also starts worrying and confronts his wife about being unfaithful; she flippantly names an antique dealer. In anger, Tognazzi leaps from the car to challenge the innocent man, only to run into a stone wall and end up in the hospital. From there he monitors his wife's phone calls and finds out she was lying. So again he becomes a contented husband, but this time he is blissfully ignorant that his wife has now started a liaison with the doctor who treated him.
