Producer Riskin wrote many of Frank Capra's best films and he could have used Capra's light touch to help this movie, which winds up flat and labored under Wellman's direction. Stewart runs an opinion poll company but is having little success until he finds a small town that accurately
reflects all of America. The people in the tiny burg are perfectly average and they think the way the experts think they should think. Stewart, Meek, and long-faced Sparks go to the town and pose as insurance men, but what they are actually doing is polling everyone on various matters. Wyman runs
the local paper and Stewart falls for her, but that's erased when she discovers his real...
