Maedchen In Uniform

Acceptable remake of the classic German film of 1932. This time it's Schneider as the lonely girl at a strict boarding school falling in love with teacher Palmer, the only person to show her any kindness. When she confesses her feelings to her classmates in a drunken outburst, they ridicule her and the headmistress plans to expel her. Schneider attempts suicide, but she is prevented from doing so and then allowed to remain at school by the horrified headmistress. Palmer later resigns her position and leaves. Although slightly more explicit in its treatment, this version has nothing of the odd eroticism that made the earlier film so fascinating.
