The Harris Gang is a notorious group of outlaws led by brothers Kent, Lemp, and Graver. They have attacked the Mexican town of Tecate, murdering and raping its citizens and stealing a pure gold cross from a church. Robelo, the head of the Federales, knows that only some equally ruthless outlaws would be capable of bringing in the gang. He springs Padilla from prison with the promise of a pardon if he can lead a group of men to bring back the Harrises and the cross. The newly formed posse heads north to the town of Gila Bend, where the outlaws have holed up.
