The Harris Gang is a notorious group of outlaws led by brothers Kent, Lemp, and Graver. They have attacked the Mexican town of Tecate, murdering and raping its citizens and stealing a pure gold cross from a church. Robelo, the head of the Federales, knows that only some equally ruthless outlaws would be capable of bringing in the gang. He springs Padilla from prison with the promise of a pardon if he can lead a group of men to bring back the Harrises and the cross. The newly formed posse heads north to the town of Gila Bend, where the outlaws have holed up. Gomez, a younger member of the band, is sent into town to scout out the area, only to be insulted and abused by the racists who live there. After bedding down with a few local women, one Mexican (Ojena) discovers the gold cross in a barmaid's bedroom. He steals the cross, and it is placed in the town square to lure the Harris gang into an ambush. A bloody battle ensues, and a number of the white outlaws are severely wounded. The Mexicans remain in town, protecting a wounded member of their band as well as the remaining townsfolk. Meanwhile, the Harris gang recoups in a nearby valley. Rogers, the late Kent's girl friend, tells the gang she knows who the attackers are. After providing the information, she rejects the overtures of Kenney, the new leader. Angered, he rapes her and the remaining members all have their way with her. The next morning, the final battle begins and nearly everyone is killed. Adams, a local racist, decides that the heroic Mexicans aren't worth the time or effort for a decent funeral and dumps their bodies in a ditch. Though extremely violent, the film is energetically directed. Padilla, as the Mexican bandido, carries the film, which is an unusual mixture of THE WILD BUNCH and THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN.
