During Napoleon's attempted takeover of Haiti, American attorney Robertson must get the signature of island aristocrat Francis in order to settle an estate. She is the fiancee of Korvin, a wealthy plantation owner, and finds her sympathies are with the French rather than the Haitian rebels.
