Westover is an impoverished servant girl, working at a variety of menial tasks in order to support her illegitimate son. Crisis arises when she gives the boy up for a rich couple to adopt. The story is somewhat dull, though Westover's performance as a woman smarter than her employers
credits her with a nice characterization. Her first lover, the father of her son, is a poet of greeting card talent, which the film would have us believe is great writing. There is sometimes overdramatization to the point of being comical.
