A contemptible excuse for a romantic comedy from Gen-X auteur Eric Schaeffer, whose fumbling indie debut, MY LIFE'S IN TURNAROUND, somehow won him a TV sitcom and a Hollywood deal. Sarah Jessica Parker -- lit and made up so as to look frowsy and plain -- is the titular Lucy, an urban single who's made a cutesy suicide pact with longtime friend Joe (Schaeffer): If she doesn't find true love by the age of 30, they'll hurl themselves off the Brooklyn Bridge. Elle Macpherson and Ben Stiller figure in a predictable series of plot contrivances. Poor Lucy spends most of her time complaining about the inadequacies of her men friends, and it's no wonder -- the male leads are outright trolls. Paging Johnny Depp. leave a comment
