After years of sophomoric teenage sex comedies, along came this small, unassuming film that packed more emotional honesty than John Hughes' entire output combined. The title character (Corey Haim) is a nerdy, 13-year-old victim of a high-school social system that rewards people for their physical prowess, not their intelligence. Lucas falls in love with 16-year-old Maggie (Kerri Green), but his idyll is threatened by her attraction to Cappie Roew (Charlie Sheen), a handsome football player.
