The four-year radio feud between Allen and Benny is brought to the screen here, but not in as successful a fashion as in their radio programs. The picture was highly promoted before its release, but this didn't help it at the box office. Allen's niece, Martin, attempts to be a go-between in the continual feud. She and Benny eventually fall in love and marry. Apart from the weak story line, there are plenty of moments for some good humor--mainly on the part of Anderson as Rochester--and some snappy vocal tunes. Direction manages to keep pace with the actors. Songs include: "Do You Know Why," "Isn't That Just Like Love," "Dearest Darest I" (Johnny Burke, Jimmy Van Heusen) and "My Heart Belongs To Daddy" (Cole Porter, sung by Mary Martin). leave a comment
