The story somehow manages to blame Barrymore's plunge into crime on religious beliefs. Barrymore plays an orphaned boy in a Catholic home, where it is discovered that he is of Jewish parentage. Since the law insists that orphans be kept in a home of their own faith, the authorities decide to move him to a different orphanage.
