Another Love Story: Review

Bonin is a successful businessman in his early forties, trapped in a loveless marriage but with no real desire to leave the situation. Passik is a new man with Bonin's company who asks to speak to Bonin in private. Once in Bonin's office, Passik admits an attraction for the older man. At first shocked, Bonin eventually accepts the idea and begins an affair with Passik, which leads to tragic consequences. If it weren't for the naked bodies, this could easily pass as an American "Problem of the Week" made-for-television movie. De Zarate's treatment of the subject is trite and unimaginative, parading a few stock characterizations through a prosaic series of events. Bonin and Passik, however, manage to give intelligent performances, infusing their relationship with empathy and humor. Bonin's confusion about the situation and the sudden, unexpected changes in his life are convincing, and Passik is a likeable rogue. leave a comment
