Buffed and dreadlocked Pol (Mario Van Peebles) is a con man who, posing as a masseuse, worms his way into the estate of a wealthy widow (Lesley Ann Warren) named Opol Finklestein. He and his partner Sylvia (Loretta Devine), who arrives at the household impersonating his nurse/sister, are after the family jewels, but when the uninsured loot is stolen one night by the boyfriend of the gay stepson (Donovan Leitch), suddenly everyone is in a scramble for the gems. Meanwhile the mysterious sister-in-law (Louise Fletcher) watches with a spyglass from the upstairs balcony with plans of her own. This entertaining black comedy gets pretty wild towards the end, when a seedy cop (Daniel Baldwin) and a gang of crooks get mixed up in the action and the bodies start piling up. Along the way, there are some bizarrely funny bits of dialogue — particularly between the gay stepson and Van Peebles on the joys of homosexuality — and Loretta Devine is so hilariously nasty it makes for a fun ride. leave a comment --Dennis Dermody
