Pleasant comedy from Italy has Gassman as a third-rate actor who is sent to jail for impersonating a businessman and emerges as a first-rate con artist. Teaming with jailmate de Filippo, he engages in a number of successful escapades, including Gassman's impersonation of Greta Garbo
searching for a spot on a beach. Eventually his lover, Ferrero, tricks him into marriage, and he's forced to settle down to a quiet home life--not for long, however, as de Filippo comes to his rescue. The direction is well paced, and the nonstop comic scenes never lose their effectiveness. The
performers manage to deliver their roles in an efficient manner.
