This is a well done Italian comedy anthology in four parts. The first, "Love and Language," stars Giuffre as a Sicilian who arrives in Milan and finds himself unable to communicate because of his dialect. A taxi driver, Bagno, takes pity upon the stranger and takes him home to meet his daughter Rame, who teaches him proper Italian. Soon the couple marry, and Giuffre becomes a cab driver who enjoys hanging around the train station and ridiculing ignorant Sicilians upon their arrival. "Love and Life," the second story, stars Koscina as an insanely jealous wife, who has taken on a lover to provoke her husband to set her free. Knowing his weakness for women, Koscina hires a gorgeous model, Polesello, to work as the family maid in the hopes of catching her husband being unfaithful. Her plan works, but backfires when she phones Polesello to thank her, and it is her lover who answers the phone. The third part, "Love and Art," tells the tale of an overworked screenwriter, Leroy, who hires a beautiful secretary to help with the typing. His wife, Martini, becomes insanely jealous and forces him to replace the woman with a male secretary, Capucci, who is also an aspiring screenwriter. Soon the young man is doing all the work, and Leroy reaping all the acclaim. In fact, he becomes so successful that he does not even mind his wife's affair with Capucci. The last episode, "Love and Death," stars Lionello as a middle-aged businessman who encounters a young widow, Mercier, at the cemetery while visiting his wife's grave. Lionello drives the distraught woman home, and sympathetic to each other's grief, they soon become lovers. Mercier reveals that the stonecarver of her husband's tomb has demanded a large amount of money to finish the monument, and Lionello gladly writes her a check. Given a new burst of youthfulness by the affair, Linello goes to work a new man. However, when he returns to Mercier's home, he finds that she has moved and left no forwarding address. Crushed, he returns to the cemetery and sees her collapsing in the arms of another rich old man. leave a comment
