York plays a British 16-year-old left stranded at a French hotel during her vacation with her three younger siblings when their mother becomes ill and is hospitalized. The proprietor, Darrieux, reluctantly takes the children in, and her handsome lover More volunteers to entertain them. More takes the children on a tour of the countryside, and during the excursion York finds herself increasingly attracted to their guide (much to the dismay of Darrieux, who begins to distrust the teenager).
