Gentle Beddoe works at a bank as a teller. He walks into another bank and masquerades as a bank examiner, then steals about $50,000 from Sullivan's station. Although Sullivan waits until the following Monday to report the loss, his bank manager, police officer Haggerty, and even the federal agents believe he's innocent. But McGraw, the private eye who works for the bonding company that insures the bank, thinks Sullivan is lying. He trails Sullivan and makes sure that Sullivan cannot be bonded, so the teller is out of a job.
