Marlowe plays the title loser who rents his car to Spanish revolutionary Silvera. Silvera and his accomplice, Graff, use the vehicle as a getaway car in a diamond robbery, the proceeds of which will go to fund the revolution. Upon investigating the whereabouts of his car, Marlowe learns that Anderson, his childhood sweetheart, is prostituting herself and giving Silvera the money to further his cause. Marlowe is captured by Silvera and forced to help the crooks escape by boat. He soon falls in love with the boat owner's daughter, Haynes, and together they defeat the slimy thief and his cohorts.
