The Long, Hot Summer: Review

Filmmakers have often found it difficult to bring William Faulkner's dense novels to the screen, but here director Martin Ritt opted for a less-than-faithful adaptation of the author's work, and the results were excellent. Paul Newman stars as a Mississippi drifter who goes to work for Orson Welles, who then tries to hitch him to his resentful daughter (Joanne Woodward).
