Living It Up

1954, Movie, NR, 94 mins

Perhaps the best of the Martin and Lewis series, this outlandish tale concerns Lewis, a midwestern station master who is exposed to radioactive material and told by his doctor, Martin, that he has only a few months to live. Though the diagnosis turns out to be wrong, Martin convinces Lewis to accept an all-expense paid trip, offered as a "last hurrah" by newspaper reporter Leigh, anyway. A remake of the 1937 film NOTHING SACRED, which starred Carole Lombard in the Lewis part. Songs include "How Do You Speak to an Angel?" "That's What I Like," "Every Street's a Boulevard in Old New York," "Money Burns a Hole in My Pocket," "You're Gonna Dance with Me Baby," and "Champagne and Wedding Cake" (Styne, Hilliard). leave a comment
