LIVING IN OBLIVION
starstarstarstar
A hilarious insider's look at what it's like to work on a no-budget film set. Directed by former actor and cinematographer Tom DiCillo, who shot Jim Jarmusch's STRANGER THAN PARADISE, LIVING IN OBLIVION gets all the characters right, from Dermot Mulroney's Wolf, the pretentiously self-important cinematographer, to James LeGros' vain, scene-hogging star, Chad Palomino. (Any resemblance to Brad Pitt -- star of DeCillo's JOHNNY SUEDE -- is, we're assured, purely coincidental). It's a one-note satirical piece, but the pitfalls of indie filmmaking are lovingly portrayed, and DiCillo proves that he can take it as well as dish it out: Weasly Steve Buscemi plays the film's neurotic, talentless director. leave a comment
