This hard-driven crime reporter film features Reagan in a made-to-order role. He's the reporter with a nose for news, always brash and ready for action, who writes an expose on gangster Welden. When Welden sues for libel and wins, Reagan is demoted to police-reporting by da Silva, who plays the perfect caricature of a hard-bitten city editor. Gleason and Brophy are a pair of bumbling officers who help Reagan prove himself as they discover the body of a millionaire whom, it is believed, committed suicide.
