Exiled Russian prince Novello, downtrodden in London, is brought home by a Cockney shopgirl, creating havoc in the working-class home. Further instability is created when Lupino is kicked out of the home for having an affair with her employer. Originally a play by Novello, who
transplanted almost the entire cast for the filmed version, the main exception to the stage cast being Lupino, who gave a strong emotional performance.
