This film helped give Alcoholics Anonymous increased visibility. Fontaine and Milland are two people with a fondness for the bottle. He gets a call on the AA hotline to help Fontaine, and a romance is born as they struggle to help each other. He is married, though unsatisfied with his career at the time; she uses the bottle to hide her fear of appearing on a Broadway stage. They come to grips with their emotions and that makes them deal with their problem successfully, while Wright, Milland's faithful wife, watches patiently from the sidelines. All win in the end and Milland and Fontaine go their separate ways, but are now happy that they have control over their own lives. leave a comment
