A small, isolated Italian village suddenly finds itself embroiled in WW II when two American soldiers escape their German captors and take refuge there. The men are given shelter by the family of Fabrizi, while the townspeople are torn between their desire to protect the soldiers and their fear of German retribution if discovered.
