Unmarried and pregnant, Baring moves into a boarding house owned by Moore. There she finds friendship with her landlady's husband, Playfair. Baring later dies giving birth, leaving her child an orphan. This film wrings every last bit of emotional sap from the tear-jerking story as Playfair
tells his wife the child is a foundling. The couple, to no one's surprise, adopts the child and raises it as its own.
