LITTLE OLD NEW YORK is not much more than a romantic comedy history lesson that would have benefited greatly if the film had been a musical. Greene is Robert Fulton, and he arrives in New York in 1807 after having made several experiments of his theories in France. He moves into a tavern run by Alice Faye, then calls upon Stephenson, the Chancellor, to help him secure financing for his steamboat. Fay's boyfriend, MacMurray, is a sailor and jealous of the attention Faye showers on Greene, but that's temporarily set aside when Greene falls for Stephenson's niece, Joyce.
