This gripping, downbeat crime drama set in the Russian-Jewish community of Brighton Beach, NY, marks the auspicious directing debut of 25-year-old James Gray (The Yards, We Own the Night). Tim Roth stars as a hitman for the Russian mafia who struggles with what's left of his conscience; Edward Furlong is his brother, a borderline delinquent; and Vanessa Redgrave gives a typically strong performance as their mother, who's dying of brain cancer.
