Little Man, What Now?

After their elopement becomes public knowledge, newlyweds Margaret Sullavan and Douglass Montgomery leave their small German town for Weimar-era Berlin, where they move in with Montgomery's stepmother, Catherine Doucet, in what is eventually revealed to be a well-disguised, high-class bordello. Montgomery quits his menial job in a department store and the couple leaves, but with nowhere to go. En route, Sullavan gives birth to a son (the "little man" of the title), and Montgomery is offered a job in Holland, allowing them to leave Germany just as the Weimar Republic is about to collapse.
