Casey Falls (Nancy Allen) is an ambitious runner at the Chicago Board of Trade who hopes someday to break into the male-dominated world of trading. However, Casey's boss (Dean Stockwell), a wealthy male chauvinist, refuses to give her the opportunity to become a trader. Into Casey's life comes Nike (Danitra Vance), who tells Casey that she can help her become a successful trader. There is a catch, though; Nike is the devil and Casey must sell her soul to become rich and famous. LIMIT UP is too light and zany for its own good. Supernatural characters and silly slapstick are hardly what one expects to find in a movie concerned with greed, wealth, and famine. As it is, LIMIT UP is neither good nor funny. Although Richard Martini's direction is sincere enough, he demonstrates no capacity for delving into serious or even seriocomic situations. He settles instead for hopelessly tacky montages and unsuccessful sight gags. To his credit Martini does succeed in making the commodity-market scenes comprehensible for the layman. But for every interesting moment in LIMIT UP, there are at least two others that are dragged down by goofy costumes or cheap special effects. LIMIT UP is wholly forgettable. leave a comment
