Chatterton is the only saving grace in this mess of a film. She marries a man she later discovers to be a bigamist. She has a baby by him but marries a drunk so her child will know a father. She falls in love with another man, but when her husband breaks his back defending her from a
killer, she stays with him after all. The film has no logic, veering off on too many turns to be believable. Hardly one of Wellman's finer efforts.
