Williams is a former soldier who convinces himself he has a fatal heart condition. He meets artist Hale, a young girl from the Midwest who's trying to make it in the Big Apple. He convinces some gangsters to insure him, collecting a fee and giving it to Hale. Of course, he's not going to die and finds himself not only getting better, but falling for Hale as well.
