Director Tobe Hooper (THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE) brings Colin Wilson's absorbing novel The Space Vampires to the screen in a flurry of stuff and nonsense, mediocre special effects, overwrought performances, and narrative confusion. The film begins as a joint US/UK space mission heads out to examine Halley's Comet. Their mission is diverted, however, when the astronauts discover a strange spaceship. Upon examining the vessel, they discover several naked beings in suspended animation who appear to be human (one a beautiful woman) and bring them aboard for further examination. Once aboard the Earth ship, all hell breaks loose. The film is a mess from start to finish with several main characters who appear and disappear throughout. No character development, no thematic development, no narrative development. No life. No force. No dice. leave a comment
