In a plot too nasty for Shirley Temple, child star Withers plays a singing and dancing orphan (an abundant commodity in 1930s films) who's taken advantage of by an unscrupulous vaudeville couple. Tired of being used by the couple, she dresses like a boy and runs off, meeting McGuire.
He's wanted by the police but Withers helps hide him. Eventually he is caught but is proven innocent at the end. Withers is a natural, giving this minor feature real charm. An enjoyable entry in the "singing and dancing orphan" genre.
