The Crazy Gang (Flanagan, Nervo, Knox, Naughton, Gold, and Gray) is a popular British comedy troupe featured here in their first film appearance. The story--a remake of ALF's BUTTON AFLOAT--has them serving as sweepers for a financially strapped circus. Pohlmann is the owner of a rival carnival who wants to put them out of business. But when a magical lamp containing a genie is purchased, the Crazies manage to save the day. The thin plot is merely a showcase for the various talents of the troupe, which include a comedy trapeze act, some juggling, magic, and a number of corny jokes. Though the stage business of the troupe doesn't translate well to the big screen, this isn't too bad a comedy. Songs include "Life is a Circus" (Bernie Loren, Horace Linsley), "For You, For You" (Dave Goddard, Gene McCarthy, Larry Vannata), "Underneath the Arches" (Bud Flanagan). leave a comment
