Life In Emergency Ward 10

1959, Movie, NR, 86 mins

Hospital drama features Craig as a new surgeon plugging an experimental heart-lung machine he has brought to England from America. The other surgeons are wary about the new device, especially after it fails on an older patient. But when a young boy with a hole in his heart needs emergency surgery, the device is put to good use and Craig proves himself. In between are vignettes involving other patients, including a woman expecting quadruplets, as well as the usual doctor-nurse romances. A lot of this is just standard hospital-film follies but it's told in an intriguing and fresh manner. The acting has sincerity, and the comedy and drama of the situations are nicely balanced. The Royal College of Surgeons served as technical consultants for the film, which was based on a popular British TV series. leave a comment
