1983, Movie, NR, 89 mins

A gritty, violent, and sexually charged psychological study of a confused 16-year-old, Jean-Hugues Anglade, who, while wandering around in a train station, realizes he has an obsessive attraction for men. Anglade soon finds himself infatuated with a brutish criminal, Vittorio Mezzogiorno, who leads him away from the secure family life he once had and drags him on a hellish journey of theft, assault, and eroticism. Anglade is frighteningly intense as he shifts from the sheepish youngster early on to the embodiment of nervous passion by the film's close, but the script and direction fail to provide his acting with a satisfactory outlet. Though it was released in France in 1983, it took two years for the film to find its way to American screens. (In French; English subtitles.) leave a comment
