LET'S TALK ABOUT SEX
starstarstarstar
Two-thirds raunchy gal-on-the-street interviews about sex, one-third unconvincing melodrama involving three beautiful Miami roommates and their troubles with men adds up to an uneven but never dull gumbo of soap opera, soft-core sex fantasies and naughty talk. Writer, director and star Troy Beyer (who financed this project with her screenwriting fee from the execrable B*A*P*S) plays Jasmine -- Jazz -- an advice columnist assembling a demo tape she hopes will get her a TV gig hosting a show called "Girl Talk." Jazz, who's just broken up with fiance Michael (Joseph C. Phillips), enlists the aid of roommates Michelle (Paget Brewster) and Lena (Randi Ingerman), both of whom have their own man troubles: Wounded Michelle dates only unthreatening boy toys, while Lena's love radar inevitably guides her to the biggest creep in the crowd. Michelle's sister Morgan (Michaline Babich) and her girlfriend Drew (Tina Nguyen) complete the fictional cross-section of smart women whose foolish choices stir up no end of suds. Yawn. The fun comes in when the roomies take to the streets with their video camera and ask real women to relate their fantasies, dispense sex tips, share wild erotic confessions and reveal what they do and don't like about men. Jerry Springer couldn't have assembled a choicer lineup than Beyer's parade of hard bodies who say the darnedest things, and Springer could do worse than to book the sassy condom shop employee who demonstrates the capacity of a supersize condom by wearing it on her head. There are no great revelations, but it's all pretty entertaining, and spiced up with occasional fantasy sequences and sex scenes, shot Playboy Channel-style. leave a comment --Maitland McDonagh
