Bandleader Bob Crosby's feature film debut. The screenplay by famed author Nathanael West is little more than a mildly comical vehicle for a few tunes. Crosby's radio-show scriptwriters provided the puerile passages issuing from Bing's brother's mouth. The story deals with a maiden-lady music teacher whose corny composition is adopted by a hip musical group as a novelty number. The song's a smash, and the teacher is invited to join the ensemble and make with the boogie. Songs include the sudden smash, "Fight On For Newton High" (Roy Webb, Dave Dreyer, Herman Ruby), "The Big Noise From Winnetka" (Bob Crosby, Ray Haggart, Gil Rodin, Ray Bauduc), "Central Park" (Johnnie Mercer, Matt Malneck), and "You Forgot About Me" (Richard Robertson, Sammy Mysels, Jimmy Hanley). leave a comment
