When she finds that husband La Rocque has been cheating on her, Shearer divorces him and travels to Paris. There she is transformed from a plain housewife into a glamorous sophisticate. Dressler, a wealthy old woman, wants Shearer to help end the affair between Dressler's granddaughter, Hedda Hopper, and La Rocque.
